The Delaware Veteran Memorial Park was first dedicated on the 20th of October, 1956. It is located in New Castle, Delaware, and is designed to commemorate the service of all veterans from the state of Delaware, New Jersey, and other states as well. The park’s visionary was Garrett E. Lyons, head of the Delaware Insterstate Highway Division (DIHD), who envisioned creating a public park adjacent to the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

He spearheaded the acquisition of 40 acres of land from the Diocese of Wilmington for a future public park. Five years later, this land became the War Memorial Park, and six years after that, in 1962, the Delaware River & Bay Authority was established by a compact between New Jersey and Delaware to take over operations of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the Park.

The Park is one of the 68 U.S parks designated by the National Veterans Day Committee in Washington D.C. to hold official annual ceremonies for both Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The U.S. Presidents, Governors, and regional and state dignitaries usually attend this park to pay their respects on behalf of the nation and our region. The Park is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk. It has free parking, but no public amenities are available.

Although managed by Boise Parks and Recreation, the Veterans Memorial Park is not a city park but an Idaho state park.

The park, also known as the Old Soldier’s Home, was built on the former Idaho Soldiers Home site. It originally opened in 1895 and closed in 1966. Veterans Memorial State Park reopened the property in 1976.

In 2009, a committee of nine veterans, led by John Johns, came up with the initiative of creating a place to remember and honor veterans from Alameda County. In 2010, the City of Union City and the New Haven Unified School District approved the site and name change for the Veterans Memorial Park.

Seven years later, construction started on the park with a 12-foot high wall with the names of 1,600 veterans. The monument was completed on the 11th of November, 2017, and the dedication ceremony was held on Veterans Day.

This Veterans Memorial Park is a beautiful 97-acre park located at 13000 Sayre St., Sylmar, CA 91342. The park comprises rolling hills, grassy picnic areas, a large pavilion, camping areas, and a community recreation building.

This Veterans Memorial park occupies the grounds of the original site of Veterans Hospital, built in the 1940s, which was severely damaged in the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake. Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park was acquired in June 1957 in collaboration with the continuing construction of the Throgs Neck and Cross-Bronx Expressways. However, the park remained unnamed until a 1959 local law named it Weir Creek in honor of the Native American tradition in the area.

The word “weir” originated in the 9th century and was translated to ”block or dam” in a waterway. Settlers in this area used netted weirs at the mouth of the creek for many years, but with the rapid urbanization of the site in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the once rural creek faded away.

In May 1976, the New York City Mayor, Abraham Beame (1906-2001), renamed the property “Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park” in honor of the 200th American Revolution anniversary (1776-1783).
